Hepatitis C Overview
Hepatitis C is one type of hepatitis - a liver disease - caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). It usually spreads through contact with infected blood. It can also spread through sex with an infected person and from mother to baby during childbirth.
Most people who are infected with hepatitis C don't have any symptoms for years. A Hepatitis C home test can tell if you have it. Usually, hepatitis C does not get better by itself. The infection can last a lifetime and may lead to scarring of the liver or liver cancer.
Medicines sometimes help, but side effects can be a problem and serious cases may need a liver transplant. This is why you should geta hepatitis c home test kit and check your status, knowing your status can save your life and serious complication in the future.
Hepatitis C Symptoms
Although hepatitis C damages the liver, 80% of people with the disease do not have symptoms. In those who do, symptoms may not appear for10-20 years, or even longer. Even then, the symptoms usually come and go and are mild and vague. Unfortunately, by the time symptoms appear, the damage may be very serious.
A minority of people have symptoms during the early acute phase of the infection. These symptoms typically develop 5-12 weeks after exposure to HCV. Some people describe the symptoms as being flu-like. The symptoms may last a few weeks or months. If you have any of these symptoms you should get a hepatitis c home test.
4. Loss of appetite
6. Pain over the liver (on the right side of the abdomen, just under the rib cage)
7. Jaundice - A condition in which the skin and the whites of the eyes turn yellow
8. Dark-colored urine (may look like cola or tea)
9. Stools become pale in color (grayish or clay colored)
Prolonged nausea and vomiting can cause dehydration.
If you have been vomiting repeatedly, you may notice the following symptoms:
1, Confusion or difficulty concentrating
2, A headache
3. Not urinating
5. Fatigue or weakness
Chronic hepatitis C can lead to cirrhosis of the liver in many people, a condition traditionally associated with alcoholism. Cirrhosis is a condition in which healthy liver tissue is replaced by fibrous tissue, followed by scar-like hardening. As this happens, the liver gradually begins to fail, or lose its ability to carry out its normal functions. Eventually, symptoms develop.
Symptoms of cirrhosis include the following:
1. Fluid retention causing swelling of the belly (ascites), legs, or whole body
2. Persistent jaundice
4. Disturbances in sleeping
5. Itchy skin
6. Loss of appetite, weight loss, wasting
7. Vomiting with blood in the vomit
Mental disturbances such as confusion, lethargy, extreme sleepiness, or hallucinations (hepatic encephalopathy)

One Step HCV Test is a rapid direct binding test for the visual detection of hepatitis C antibodies (anti-HCV) in whole blood as an aid in the diagnosis of hepatitis C infection.
One Step HCV Test is based on the principle of double antigen sandwich immunoassay for determination of anti-HCV in whole blood. Purified recombinant antigens are employed to identify anti-HCV specifically.
This one step test is very sensitive and only takes about 10-20 minutes. Test results are read visually without any instrument.
STORAGE AND STABILITY
The test kit can be stored at room temperature (4 to 30C) in the sealed pouch to the date of expiration. The test kit should be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture and heat.
1. For in vitro diagnostic use only.
2. Don’t use it after the expiration date.
3. The test device should not be reused.
The specificity of the CORE One Step HCV Test is based on clinical studies using confirmed negative serum samples from blood bank and hospital patients altogether 156 samples. The studies were performed comparing the results from CORE One Step HCV test and that from Abbott’s ELISA as a reference test. The overall specificity was found to be 97 - 99%.
In the same studies mentioned above, CORE One Step HCV Test was evaluated with 48 confirmed positive serum samples. All 61 samples were found reactive.
1. Only samples that are clear and with good fluidity can be used in this test.
2. Fresh samples are best but refrigerated samples can be used.
3. Do not agitate the sample. Insert a pipette just below the surface of the sample to collect the specimen.
LIMITATION OF PROCEDURE
HCV Antibody test device is used for the detection of HCV Antibody in human blood. Based on a single reactive test result, a sample should not be considered HCV Antibody positive. Further testing, including confirmatory testing, should be performed before a specimen is considered positive for HCV Antibody. A non-reactive test result does not exclude the possibility of exposure to hepatitis C virus. Levels of HCV Antibody may be undetected both in early infection and late after infection. Specimens containing precipitate may give inconsistent test results.
The positive control in the test kit is not to be used to quantify assay sensitivity. The positive control is used to verify that the test kit components are capable of detecting a reactive specimen provided the procedure is followed as defined in the kit and the storage conditions have been strictly adhered to.
